# Reading books

 You can read books in the Yandex Start app. Download a book, choose a convenient mode, and start reading.

The app supports the following formats: `EPUB`, `FB2`, `MOBI`.

## Add a book to the library

To make the feature available, [update](https://yandex.kz/support2/yandex-app-android/en/app/install.md) the app to the latest version.

To open the library:

1. Tap **Reader**.

To add a book, use one of these methods:

* Tap **![](../_assets/reader-add.svg)**. Choose the file on your device.

* In the upper-right corner, tap **![](../_assets/but-menu1.svg)** → **Add book**. Choose the file on your device.

The book will be added to **Downloads**.


## Open {#open-book}

- Choose a book you want to read

  1. Select **Reader**.
  1. Under **Downloads**, tap the book to start reading.

  1. Select **Reader**.
  1. Tap the book. This will open the page where you left off.

  The ![](../_assets/reader-per-icon.svg) icon next to each book shows your reading progress.

The book will open in a new tab.

1. To the right of the book name, tap **![](../_assets/but-menu1.svg)**.
1. Tap **Share**.
1. Select the app where you want to open the book.

## Read {#read-book}

Tap the right edge of the screen to turn the page, and the left edge to return to the previous page.

To open settings, tap the center of the screen. The following actions are available in the settings:

   ![](../_assets/reader-content-icon.svg): Open the table of contents. Tap the title of the chapter to start reading it.
   ![](../_assets/reader-font-icon.svg): Change the font size and margins. To change the font size, tap ![](../_assets/reader-plus-icon.svg) or ![](../_assets/reader-minus-icon.svg). Adjust the text width on the screen by tapping one of the ![](../_assets/reader-spare-icon.svg) icons.
   ![](../_assets/read-aloud-on.svg): [Listen](#read-aloud) to the book.
   ![](../_assets/reader-night-icon.svg): Switch to the dark theme. To switch back to the light theme, tap ![](../_assets/reader-light-icon.svg).
   **Downloads**: Open the library.
   Navigation slider: Jump to the page you need. At the bottom of the screen, drag the slider left or right.


## Listening {#read-aloud}

You can also listen to books in the Yandex Start app. You can choose between a female or male voice. To listen to a book:

1. Open the book.
2. Tap the center of the screen.
3. Tap ![](../_assets/read-aloud-on.svg).

Use the bottom panel to adjust the playback settings as you listen:

   ![](../_assets/read-aloud-pause.svg): Pause.
   ![](../_assets/read-aloud-play.svg): Resume.
   ![](../_assets/read-aloud-back.svg): Skip 10 seconds back.
   ![](../_assets/read-aloud-forward.svg): Skip 10 seconds forward.
   ![](../_assets/read-aloud-menu.svg): Select the reading speed and voice. If the normal speed doesn't feel right, select fast or very fast reading. You can also select a female or male reader here.
    ![](../_assets/read-aloud-close.svg): Turn off playback. To make the icon appear, first tap ![](../_assets/read-aloud-pause.svg).


## Sort {#sort-book}

You can sort books:

1. In the upper-right corner, tap **![](../_assets/but-menu1.svg)**.
2. Select the sorting method:
    * **Recent**.
    * **Download date**.
    * **Name**.


## Delete {#delete-book}

 If you remove a book from the library, it remains in your device's memory.
