# Power saving mode

When a device is used a lot, its battery runs out quickly. The battery capacity also decreases with time: the longer you use a device, the faster its battery is draining. Power saving mode saves battery power, and gives you extra time of device use.

## How does power saving mode work? {#how-works}

In this mode, Yandex app:

- Reduces activity of the background tabs.
- Disables the reader mode.
- Uses hardware video [codecs](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_codec) instead of [VP9](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VP9) and [VP8](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VP8).
- Turns off the parallax effect for the background upon opening a new tab.
- Disables smooth animation of web page elements.
- Disables interface animations.
- Takes other actions to optimize power consumption.


## Enable {#on}

#### Automatically

By default, power saving mode is enabled when the battery charge drops to 20%, and disabled when you start to charge the device.

#### Enabled permanently

1. Tap **Power saving mode**.
1. In **Power-saving settings**, drag the slider right to **On**.


## Disable {#off}

#### Permanently disabled

1. Tap **Power saving mode**.
1. In **Power-saving settings**, slide the option to the left to **Off**.


## Set up {#adjustment}

You can choose when the power saving mode is enabled:

1. Tap **Power saving mode**.
1. Use the slider in the **Power-saving settings** to set the charge level to trigger the mode.
1. You can also control which app features will work in power-saving mode:
   - **Read mode**. Turn on this option to make reader mode available.
   - **Smooth animation of web page elements**. Enable this option to enable smooth animation of site elements. This will allow maps and online games to be rendered in high quality.
   - **App animations**. Enable this option to make smooth animation of app elements available.
