# Translate pages and images
Yandex automatically detects the page language and suggests to translate it into Russian or another language of your choice. The translator tool can recognize text in images and show the translation on top of the original text.
## Translating pages {#manual}

To translate a page from another language into English, tap the  icon on the page or select  → **Translate page**.
You can monitor the progress in the translation bar at the top of the screen. If you want to stop the translation, tap  at the top right.
To return to the page in the original language:

Tap  on the right of the translation bar.
- From the menu
Tap  → **Show original**.

The page is translated into English automatically. To return to the page in the original language, tap  → **Show original**.

## Translating words and phrases {#words}

The Translate tool is only available on Android devices.

Yandex can translate words and sentences into Russian. To see the translation of a word or phrase, select it on the page. The translation bar appears at the top of the screen.
To see all translations of a word or phrase:
1. Select them in the text.
1. On the panel that opens, tap  → **Yandex Translate**.

## Translate images {#translate-pictures}

- One image
1. Tap and hold the image.
1. In the context menu, select **Translate image**.
The translation appears on top of the original image.
To see the original image:
1. Tap and hold the image.
1. In the context menu, select **Show original**.
- All images
- If **Automatic image translation** is enabled in the [settings](#settings), you can simply [translate the page](#manual).
- If **Automatic image translation** is disabled, tap  on the translation bar at the top of the screen.
To see the original image text, tap . To see the page and the images in their original language, tap  on the translation bar.

You can also translate images that are not part of a page. For example, you want to wish a Merry Christmas to your British friend. You can do a search and find lots of greeting cards. But if your English isn't good enough, you can't be sure that the greeting and the recipient's name are correct. To be on the safe side, use [Yandex Images](https://yandex.com/support/images/).

## Change the translation language {#change}

Follow these steps to translate a page into the language of your choice:
1. [Translate](https://yandex.kz/support/m-yandex/en/app/translation.md#manual) the page into English the easiest way for you.
1. In the translation bar at the top of the page, select a language from the list.

If automatic image translation is enabled in the [settings](https://yandex.kz/support/m-yandex/en/app/translation.md#settings), images are also translated into the new target language. If automatic image translation is disabled, after you change the translation language, tap  on the translation bar at the top of the screen.

If you want the app to translate pages automatically when you open them:

On the home screen, tap  **(profile picture)** → **App settings**.
1. Go to **Yandex Translate**.
1. Enable the **Automatic page translation** option.

## Problems with translation {#problems}

Translation is enabled in the browser by default. Make sure that you have not turned off the translator manually:
1.
On the home screen, tap  **(profile picture)** → **App settings**.
1. Under **Yandex Translate**, make sure the following options are enabled:
- **Offer to translate pages**.
- **Automatic page translation** (you don't need to request translation: pages are automatically translated into the interface language).
- **Automatic image translation** (text in images is also translated along with the entire page).
- **Translate words and phrases**.

Image text can't be translated if:
- The image isn't clear enough.
- The text is handwritten or cursive.
- The image is too small.
