# Playing videos in the browser

## Which video formats can be played in Yandex Browser? {#what}

[Yandex Browser](https://browser.yandex.com/) can open video files with the following extensions: `mp4`, `webm`, `ogv`, and `m4v`.

Video files with the `swf`, `avi`, `mpg`, `mov`, `x-m4v`, `wmv`, `quicktime` and `flv` extensions aren't supported.

## View videos in a separate window {#window}

{% note info %}

The video appears in a separate window if you launched the video yourself or it plays with sound. Video pop-ups are unavailable in [Incognito mode](https://yandex.kz/support/browser/en/personal-data-protection/incognito-mode.md).

{% endnote %}

You can view videos in a separate Yandex Browser window. For example, you can simultaneously launch an app and accompanying video instructions. The video player window is displayed on top of the other windows so you can watch it no regardless of the application you are using. You can resize the window or drag it anywhere on the screen. The video will continue even if you minimize Yandex Browser. If a video in HTML5 format contains subtitles (for example, videos on YouTube have the ![](../_image/youtube-sub-icon.png) icon on the control panel), they'll also appear in a new window.

![](../_image/auto-video-out-off.png)

{% cut "Video in a separate window" %}

By default, the video opens in a separate window when you switch to another tab or program. If this didn't happen, hover your cursor over the top of the video player and click ![](../_image/new-window-3.png).

{% note tip %}

You can drag the ![](../_image/new-window-3.png) icon over the video player anywhere you like.

{% endnote %}

{% endcut %}

{% cut "Manage videos" %}

Use keyboard shortcuts for quick control.

#|
||Pause / play | **Space**||
||Skip 5 seconds forward | **→**||
||Rewind 5 seconds back | **←**||
|#

You can also slow down or speed up the video. To do this, click **![](../_image/bookmark-menu-icon.png)** → **Speed** and select the speed from the list.

{% endcut %}

{% cut "Manage videos in a separate window" %}

You can hide the video pop-up button or disable automatic video pop-up:

1. <!-- source: en/_includes/reusables/phrases/id-phrases/open-sett-instr.md -->
 Click **![](../_image/settings-icon.png =20x)** → **Settings** → **Tools**.
 <!-- endsource: en/_includes/reusables/phrases/id-phrases/open-sett-instr.md -->

1. In the **View videos on top of other tabs and programs** section, disable the **Show the pop out button on videos** or **Automatically open video in a separate window**.

If you don't want videos to pop up in a separate window, disable both options.

{% endcut %}

## QR scanner for videos {#qr-video}

Yandex Browser can recognize QR codes on videos and display their contents. Browser highlights the QR code with a colored frame and shows the options to follow or copy the link.

- To follow the link, click the QR code. To copy the link to the clipboard, click ![](../_image/link.png).

- To copy the QR code's text to the clipboard, click **Copy**.

- To hide the frame on the QR code, hover over it and click ![](../_image/close-icon-2.png).

{% note alert %}

Please be [careful](https://yandex.com/support/common/security/phishing.html#ways__fake-sites) when following unknown links.

{% endnote %}

## NVIDIA RTX Super Resolution {#nvidia-rtx-super-resolution}

{% note info %}

The technology is only available on devices with NVIDIA RTX 30-series and 40-series video cards. Support for RTX 20-series video cards may be added in the future. Drivers that support the technology are currently only available on Windows 10 and 11.

## End of Flash support {#no-flash}

The [Flash](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Flash) technology was used in browsers to play multimedia files and run games. Adobe stopped supporting and distributing it in 2021.

Most sites already use other content playback formats, such as HTML5 or WebGL. These open source technologies are faster and more stable, significantly safer than Flash, and use less power.

If you visit a site that uses Flash, contact its support.
