# Browser-based web applications
Add your favorite services to the [side panel](https://yandex.kz/support/browser/en/personalization/sidebar.md) to use them as web applications. Open them with one click and use them in a separate window, rather than searching for the tab. For example, you can view messages in [Yandex Mail](https://yandex.com/support/mail/) or organize a meeting in [Yandex Telemost](https://yandex.com/support/telemost/) without opening the main [Yandex Browser](https://browser.yandex.com/) window with many tabs.
There are also web applications for popular messengers, social networks and online games.
You can add sites that use [Progressive Web Application](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_web_app) as web applications, including some popular resources that we support on our own.

## Installation {#app-to-sidebar}

- From the built-in catalog
1. Click  on the side panel.
1. Right-click the application you need in the **Communication**, **Services**, **Entertainment** or **Yandex 360** section.
1. Select **Install application**.
- Manually

1. Open a website.
1. To the right of the [SmartBox](*smart-link), click  → **Install as an app**.

If the website can't be installed as an application, this option is disabled.

1. Select [how](#app-windows) you want to open the website:
- In a separate window.
- In a pop-up window.
- In a pinned window.
1. Configure the application by clicking  and selecting the [options](#app-menu) you need (such as **Autostart app**, **Open the mobile version**, and **Add shortcut**).

1. In the side panel, click **** → **Add site as app**.
1. Start entering the site address and select it from the menu that opens.
1. Click **Add**.

Not all sites work correctly as applications. If you encounter this problem or can't add a site, [write to us using the form](https://yandex.kz/support/browser/en/support/support.md#report-problem).
## Run {#quick-access}

To restore the tabs of your previously opened web applications on browser startup, click **** → **Settings** → **Interface** → **Tabs and groups** and enable the option **Restore tabs in web application windows**.

There are several ways to open a web application:

- If the application has been added to the side panel, click its icon in the panel.
- If you haven't added the application yet, click  in the side panel and choose it.

To hide an application from the side panel, click **** → **Applications** and deselect the application.

Open the website and click  → **Open application** to the right of the SmartBox.

The **Open application** option is available only after you [install](#app-to-sidebar) the website as an application in the side panel.

You can run the application via a shortcut on your desktop, from the Start menu, or from your computer's task bar. To do this:
1. Right-click the web application's icon in the side panel.
1. Select **Pin to Windows taskbar**.

The application will run every time you start your computer. To do this:
1. Right-click the web application's icon in the side panel.
1. Select **Run at Windows startup**.

## Web app windows {#app-windows}

Some Yandex Browser functions are available in the web application window. For example, you can open links in separate tabs, run [extensions](https://yandex.kz/support/browser/en/personalization/extension.md), use [reader mode](https://yandex.kz/support/browser/en/search-and-browse/read-mode.md) and other tools.

There are three modes in which you can use the web application window. To select a mode:
1. [Run](#quick-access) the application.
1. In the upper-right corner of the window that opens, click .
1. Select one of the options:

In this mode, you can pin the site to the Windows task bar and use it as a separate program. The application opens in a separate window.
You can change the window size by dragging the borders. You can also move the window by clicking and holding the upper application panel with the left mouse button.
To close the window, in the upper-right corner, click .
In Windows, you can switch in its mode between windows using the **Alt** + **Tab** keys.

Use this mode if you need to get information from the application quickly and then close it. For example, if you use an online dictionary.
The application opens in a small window on top of the main Yandex Browser window. The window's size and position do not change.
To close the window, left-click anywhere outside of it.
Sometimes it is more convenient to use the mobile site version in the pop-up window. To open it, click **** → **Mobile version**.

In this mode, you can view another service (such as chats, mail, or online broadcast) while using the main window.
The Yandex Browser window is divided vertically into two parts, and the application opens in the left (smaller) part. To increase the size of the left part, drag the border to the right.
To close the pinned window, click  in the upper-right corner or the app icon on the side panel.
Sometimes it is more convenient to use the mobile site version in the pinned window. To open it, click **** → **Mobile version**.

## Web application menu {#app-menu}
To open the menu, click  in the application window. In the menu, the following options are available:

- **Autostart app**: The application will run every time you start your computer.
- **Open the mobile version**: Open the mobile version of the app. Sometimes a mobile version of a website looks better in a pinned or pop-up window than its desktop version.
- **Open links in the web app**: Links will open in separate tabs within the application.
- **Go to homepage**: Go to the application's start page. You may use this feature if the **Home** button is missing on the application's website.
- **Open in browser**: The application window will be closed and the application will open in a new Yandex Browser tab.
- **Copy URL**: Copy the address of the open page of the application's website.
- **About the application**: Open the Protect panel with information about the application.
- **Add shortcut**: Add a shortcut for the application to your taskbar or desktop.
- **Delete application**: Remove the application from Yandex Browser.
- Pop-up window
- **Homepage**: Go to the application's start page. You may use this feature if the **Home** button is missing on the application's website.
- **Copy URL**: Copy the address of the open page of the application's website.
- **Open in browser**: The application window will be closed and the application will open in a new Yandex Browser tab.
- **About website**: Open the Protect panel with information about the website integrated into the application.
- **Mobile version**: Open the mobile version of the application. Sometimes a mobile version of a website looks better in a pinned or pop-up window than its desktop version.
- **Delete application**: Remove the application from Yandex Browser.
- Pinned window

## Hide or delete {#hide-or-delete}

In the side panel, click **** → **Applications** and deselect the application.

Right-click the web application's icon in the side panel and select **Delete application**.
If the application is not on the side panel, click  and find it under **My apps**. Right-click it and select **Delete application**.
