# Yandex Browser appearance

You can switch to the dark theme and change the background on which the [SmartBox](https://yandex.kz/support/browser-mobile-android-phone/en/navigation/search.md#smartbox) and [Tableau](https://yandex.kz/support/browser-mobile-android-phone/en/personal-settings/tableau.md) appear in new [tabs](https://yandex.kz/support/browser-mobile-android-phone/en/navigation/tabs.md).

## Dark theme {#theme}

By default, Yandex Browser elements (like tabs and the [SmartBox](https://yandex.kz/support/browser-mobile-android-phone/en/navigation/search.md#smartbox)) are displayed on a light background. To change your Yandex Browser theme:

1. Tap  <svg width="24" height="24" viewBox="0 0 24 24" fill="none" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"><path d="M3 6H21V8H3V6Z" fill="currentcolor"/><path d="M3 11H21V13H3V11Z" fill="currentcolor"/><path d="M3 16H21V18H3V16Z" fill="currentcolor"/></svg> → **Settings** → **Theme**.

1. Select one of the options:

    - **Always dark**
    - **Always light**
    - **System settings**


## Dark theme for websites {#sites}

You can darken not only the elements of Yandex Browser, but also the pages themselves. It makes it more convenient to view them at night, as you are less likely to wake anybody up.

To enable dark theme for websites:

2. Select **Always dark** or **System settings**.

3. Enable the **Dark theme for websites** option.

If the dark theme is enabled for all websites, you can switch a specific site to the light theme.

To enable the light theme for a specific website:

1. 2. Tap **Enable light theme on the site**.

Some Yandex services always use the light theme because they look better that way.

## Dark theme for yandex.com {#search-theme}

You can enable the dark theme for the Yandex Home page, search results, and services:

 On the [settings page](https://yandex.com/tune/common), go to **General** → **External appearance** and select **Always dark**.

To select the theme for search result pages, log in with your [Yandex ID](https://passport.yandex.com/profile).

1. Scroll up the search results page.

2. In the top-right corner, tap your profile picture.

3. Tap **Appearance** → **Always dark**.

## Yandex Browser background {#change}

You can use images as the background:

2. Select an image from an album and tap **Apply**.

You can configure the browser to randomly alternate images or videos from your **Background gallery** every 24 hours. 
- **For one album**. Select the desired album in the **Backgrounds gallery** and tap **Rotate backgrounds in this album**.
- **For all albums**. In **Background gallery**, tap **Alternate backgrounds daily**.

3. Select the app to open the images with (if you don't have a default app for this file type).

4. Select an image.

## Interface language {#language}

You can change the language of your Yandex Browser interface.

3. Disable the **Auto detect** option.

4. Select a language.

Mobile device manufacturers can change the Android interface. The instructions are for Androids without modifications.

2. Tap **System** → **Languages & input** → **Languages**.


3. Select a language.

## FAQ {#backgrounds-problems}

The appearance of the Yandex Home page, search results, and services isn't linked to Yandex Browser. To make the yandex.com theme match the one in Yandex Browser, select the **System settings** option in the [home page settings](#search-theme).

If the home page theme hasn't changed after you selected **System settings** for the [home page appearance](#search-theme), you might have selected a light or dark theme in the browser settings.

Select **System settings** for [Yandex Browser](#theme) as well.
