Yandex Browser appearance

You can switch to the dark theme and change the background on which the SmartBox and Tableau appear in new tabs.

Dark theme

By default, Yandex Browser elements (like tabs and the SmartBox) are displayed on a light background. To change your Yandex Browser theme:

  1. Tap → Settings → Theme.

  2. Select one of the options:

    • Always dark
    • Always light
    • System settings

Dark theme for websites

You can darken not only the elements of Yandex Browser, but also the pages themselves. It makes it more convenient to view them at night, as you are less likely to wake anybody up.

For all sites

To enable dark theme for websites:

  1. Tap → Settings → Theme.

  2. Select Always dark or System settings.

  3. Enable the Dark theme for websites option.

For a specific website

Note

If the dark theme is enabled for all websites, you can switch a specific site to the light theme.

To enable the light theme for a specific website:

  1. On the site page, tap .

  2. Tap Enable light theme on the site.

To disable the light theme for the site, tap → Enable dark theme on the site.

Note

Some Yandex services always use the light theme because they look better that way.

Dark theme for yandex.com

You can enable the dark theme for the Yandex Home page, search results, and services:

In the Home page settings

On the settings page, go to General → External appearance and select Always dark.

In the search results

Note

To select the theme for search result pages, log in with your Yandex ID.

  1. Scroll up the search results page.

  2. In the top-right corner, tap your profile picture.

  3. Tap Appearance → Always dark.

Yandex Browser background

You can use images as the background:

From the Background gallery

  1. Tap → Background gallery.

  2. Select an image from an album and tap Apply.

Note

You can configure the browser to randomly alternate images or videos from your Background gallery every 24 hours.

  • For one album. Select the desired album in the Backgrounds gallery and tap Rotate backgrounds in this album.
  • For all albums. In Background gallery, tap Alternate backgrounds daily.
From your smartphone

  1. Tap → Background gallery.

  2. Tap Upload from phone.

  3. Select the app to open the images with (if you don't have a default app for this file type).

  4. Select an image.

Interface language

You can change the language of your Yandex Browser interface.

In Yandex Browser

  1. Tap → Settings.

  2. Tap App language.

  3. Disable the Auto detect option.

  4. Select a language.

In the device settings

Note

Mobile device manufacturers can change the Android interface. The instructions are for Androids without modifications.

  1. Open your device settings.

  2. Tap System → Languages & input → Languages.

  3. Select a language.

Alert

If the browser doesn't support the language you selected, the interface is in English.

FAQ

I changed the theme in the browser settings, but the yandex.com theme hasn't changed

The appearance of the Yandex Home page, search results, and services isn't linked to Yandex Browser. To make the yandex.com theme match the one in Yandex Browser, select the System settings option in the home page settings.

The yandex.com theme hasn't changed

If the home page theme hasn't changed after you selected System settings for the home page appearance, you might have selected a light or dark theme in the browser settings.

Select System settings for Yandex Browser as well.

The background changed by itself

Tap → Background gallery → Disable background rotation.
